In their eyes I see courage, desire, and power

Delphine Fawundu’s Lagos Photo Project provided a three day intensive workshop to Nigerian women photographers that allowed them to explore themselves through self portraiture. In their images we see human experiences; battling fear, overcoming self doubt, and accepting the complexities and contradictions of oneself. This project is one of the few I’ve seen that equip African women with the creative tools to represent their realities.Against imagery that often excludes our voices, Fawundu’s project provides a burst of fresh photographic and creative energy. It challenges us to remember who we are creating for and where do the stories we are telling fit into their stories of themselves.
